More Junior Success for Moorgate

In a week when the senior results did not go the way that the club would have wanted, Moorgate were grateful for the continued excellence of their younger players.

Star player, 16-year-old Josh Bows, took part in the North Summer County Tour at Chapel Allertonmin the Open Mens Singles. Seeded second, he took out a veteran player in his quarter final for the loss of just two games, to set up a semi final against the number three seed from Cheshire.  After losing the first set, Josh recovered to eventually take the match on a championship tie break.

In the final, Josh played the number four seed from Staffordshire (who had previously defeated the number one seed) and took a comprehensive victory for the loss of just one game.

Meanwhile 15-year-old Daniel Porter also represented the club and, after a good win against a player from Northumberland (who would later go on to win the plate tournament), he was beaten by the number three seed.

The attention then switched to the Sheffield & District Mini Green League for players aged 10-and-Under - the first ever fixture for the club at this level. The team of Corey Newsome, Edward Moore, Zak Lyne and Sam Cordell took on a team from Thorncliffe, in what was to prove an exciting afternoon, filled with good tennis from all the players.

In the first round, Edward had a comfortable winmagainst a good opponent, whilst Corey lost on a championship tie break and Zak/Sam combined for a comfortable doubles win.

The second round of matches were much tighter - other than another easy win for Zak - with the doubles involving Edward and Corey going to a close championship tie break (which they just edged) and the singles match involving Sam turning into a marathon encounter, Sam fought his way back, to take the second set on a tie break, before losing out on a championship tie break.

The final score was a 4-2 win for Moorgate, in which all four players contributed at least one win.
