Moorgate's Future Stars have their Day in the Sun

The younger members of Moorgate Tennis Club took centre stage as the Mini Club Championships took place, in what has become the traditional weather for these tournaments.

The youngsters enjoyed a packed program of tennis, arranged by Head Coach Glyn Smith, watched by an appreciative audience of family and friends.

The first final of the day was in the Mini Red category, for children aged 8-and-Under and was to set the pattern for a day of highly competitive tennis.  First time finalists, Freya Wilby and Neve Routledge, played out a tight three setter; with Freya just coming out on top.

The Mini Orange event for players aged 9-and-Under, was played on a round robin basis, and saw Sam Cordell overcome newcomer Georgia Tidy (in a close contest) to top his group; setting up a final with another newcomer, Max Venables, where Sam's greater experience was the deciding factor.

The Mini Green final for players of 11-and-Under was another close run affair, with Sam once again using his greater experience to edge out Georgia.

The club would like to thank Glyn for all his hard work; as well as Nigel Cordell who took up umpiring duties, meaning that he sometimes missed the matches involving son, Sam.
