A LETTER FROM THE CHAIRMAN - APR 2024

There is plenty of tennis down at the club now that League matches have started, with popular mix-ins and hopefully with some warmer weather we will see plenty more social play on the courts as well.  Support at home matches is most welcome so keep an eye open for any messages about these fixtures.  Many ladies home games are played on Wednesday evenings and Mens on Tuesdays. These are often good quality tennis and an opportunity to be sociable with a beer with friends.

It has also been a busy time behind the scenes with a very successful cleanup day on Saturday 27th of April.  Many thanks to all the volunteers who dug, scraped, wheeled, scrubbed and cleaned to great effect.  We were able to  achieve improving most of the pathway around the outside of Courts 3 and 4.  Not only was it a useful and successful morning it was also good to see so many of our club members helping out.

Earlier in the month on Sunday the 14th we had a family open day to encourage families and youngsters to get involved with tennis.  This too had a good response with well over 30 people attending.

We also have a very active Walking Tennis group which meets on Monday afternoons at 2pm. Anyone interested contact Chris Banks.

We are in discussion with residents and Walton village hall over improving the road surface in Green Gore Lane as the potholes have become a significant size.

We have had a Bar License compliance visit to alert us to our responsibilities as a club and we have updated our signage.

We are still awaiting news of our bid for Grant money from the Commonwealth Games Legacy fund but we should hear in the next few weeks.

Here are a couple of dates for the diary.

We will be holding an Open day on 18th of May.  There will be family time between 10 and 12.30pm, adults from 12.30-1.30, and we will be running a tournament from 1.30pm.  Volunteers to help are most welcome and should contact either myself or Carol Stanley.

We are planning a social event for later in the year.  Roger Roberts has agreed to run a Quiz on the 5th of October.

We are going to run a She Rallies session on Sunday 2nd of June for ladies and girls who wish to try tennis.  So please encourage anyone who you think may be interested to sign up for this.

We will be running Rusty rackets to follow on from this session from 9th June.

Finally a reminder that subscriptions become due on first of June.  Subscription rates will be sent out by Carol and will be on the website after May 14th when the May direct debits have gone through.
