Byfield V Harbury Summer League

Byfield v Harbury - 21st July

The forecast was a nice summers evening for a spot of tennis at the picturesque Byfield tennis club, instead we were treated to a hot and muggy evening with a rainy last set. The weather didn’t detract from a fantastic evening of tennis with some close fought games. The format for the evening was 9 sets of 11 games each so a total of 99 games were played. Harbury set off at pace winning the first three sets in style and a special mention has to be made to Eira who battled through a damaged Achilles to finish the first set and avoid a forfeit. Byfield kindly rallied round Eira and provided a bag of frozen peas and a glass of wine to ease the pain and a smile was soon restored! This did mean we had to forfeit two further sets. Byfield fought back hard with some formidable men’s pairings and with secret weapon Ricky serving at what felt like well over 200mph, they closed the gap to win 4 sets. Colin and Steve had luck on their side with numerous shots clipping the net and dropping over, much to Byfields frustration whilst Steve /Caroline and Colin/Debs proved great pairings winning their sets to edge out the overall victory 5/4.

This win put Harbury 3rd in the table.
