ARE YOU A MELON HEAD? ARE YOU OUT OF CONTROL WHEN PLAYING?
Is your head rolling around? Leaning forward and/or backward when hitting the ball? then you are a 'melon head'.
Your head dictates balance, if your head is not still when playing your shots, chances are you are unbalanced. Balance is essential - espcially if you are chasing the ball. You need to play your shot while being stable otherwise you are more prone to unforced errors.
Being balanced will also help you be faster on court. How? When your head leans forward, your are creating extra weight in the forward direction. After your contact with the ball, the momentum created by the extra weight will 'force' you to keep going forward for at least an extra step or two. By keeping your head straight on contact you can save at least four steps (two after the shot + two to recover).
Don't be a 'melon head' - keep you head still when playing your shots.
