Director

Founder and Director of 10is Academy, Sebastien Scaux is considered to be one of the most influential coaches in Camrbridgeshire. "We are accountable for our players and we shoulder our responsibilities both in victories and defeat" - Sebastien Scaux

10is Academy prouds itself in growing some of our local players into competent coaches thanks to our "Coach pathway".

From the age of 10 year-old a few players are chosen to join the team as assistant. At the age of 13 year-old they can become "LTA Tennis leaders" (Free of charge). At 16 year-old they will be encouraged to take their LTA Level 1 (100% funded by 10is Academy). By then the young coaches leave for University where they often coach to make some extra income.

Growing up

Growing up in Tarare was a unique experience. It was a small town, and our community was predominantly made up of low-income families. Despite our financial struggles, our community was rich in diversity, with people from all walks of life and various cultural backgrounds. Growing up in such a community taught me a valuable lesson: to respect, understand, and celebrate the different cultures, perspectives, and values of my neighbors and friends. It is what makes us human, after all.

As a child, my younger brother and I were always outdoors, playing with our friends. Whether it was football, basketball, handball, BMX racing, or any other sport, we did them all. With every game we played, my love for sports grew stronger. Not only was I being active and healthy, but I was also discovering how my body moved and behaved, how my mind could push my limits further and further. But more importantly, sports gave me many friends.

Some of my friends were excellent at football but not so good at the other sports. Others were good at all of them, and some were not good at any of them. It didn't matter to us how good or bad we were, because even the player who was always picked last was respected. We had the same rights to play, have fun, and win or lose. This taught me the value of inclusivity and fairness, and I carry this lesson with me to this day.

Playing tennis

I started playing tennis at the age of 18, inspired by watching Roland Garros. My friend Cedric and I bought a cheap racket and went to the local tennis club. We spent hours on the court, and after a couple of months, some members noticed me and invited me to join. Soon, I was competing in the leagues and in individual competitions. I wasn’t too bad, and I loved competing. I played for two years before life and work stopped me.

Tennis came back into my life in 2005, five years after moving to England. I joined Papworth Everard LTC because it was only 100 yards away from my home. A few years later, in 2010, took on my LTA qualifications and after succeeding my Level 3, I finally had my first ever tennis lesson. It was a nice change of pace to be the one being taught, rather than the one teaching.

For the next few years, I was busy with coaching and life, and I did not compete nor push myself. However, in 2019, I decided to make a few changes in my life, and playing tennis competitively became one of my goals. I found the best coach possible, Louis Cayer, and decided to start competing again. Since then, I have competed in my first ITF competition, including in 2023 the ITF Individual World Championship.

Through my experiences, I have learned that life is about constantly pushing yourself and striving to achieve your goals, no matter how big or small they are. And even if you fall short, it's the journey that counts, the lessons learned, and the memories made.
