Match Report

Division 1 Acle A Match Result
Date: Sunday 18th March 2018
Opponents: Cromer A
Location: Acle

What potentially was a tricky match on paper proved to be so as Acle A narrowly defeated a Cromer A side consisting of youth, experience and raw power. On a bitterly cold day, both mixed pairings for Acle A took some time to get going. Ann and Andrew clawed their way back very gradually to square their match at one set all. Sabine and Andy came back from 3-1 deficits in both sets to secure a well earned 7-6 6-3 victory.

Despite being 3-1 down at the half way stage, Cromer came on strong in the ladies and mens doubles. With the ladies losing their first set and the men 4 a piece but 0-40 down on service, victory looked to be a long way off. However, the men battled hard to secure their service game against some very hard hitting and broke immediately in the next game, to secure the first set. The ladies continued to find the going tough losing their second set but the men, now with some momentum, ran away with the second set 6-0, as their opponents imploded.

A well-crafted out result against stern opposition on a day not for the faint-hearted given the severe wind chill.

Acle A have remained undefeated all season securing the Division One title with 2 matches to spare which has been a great achievement. I would like to thank everyone who have made themselves available for the matches. A high performance level was maintained throughout all the matches by everyone so it has very much been a team effort.

Court Cleaning

The courts will be cleaned on 26th March. This is an important task that needs to happen regularly to ensure that the courts remain in good condition and safe to use. We also plan to have holes filled and some painting work done in April. We will announce details of this programme nearer the time and highlighting the impact on court availability. We will of course be aiming to keep any inconvenience to a minimum.

Facebook Group

We have created a new Acle Tennis Club Group on Facebook which (unlike our Facebook page) allows any member to post comments, pictures or other information that they would like to share with the club. Please click on the link to join! https://www.facebook.com/groups/349003585509124/?source_id=1377393375901439

Club Night Fees

Due to there being very little balls returned to the club after matches during the summer season and therefore having to buy new balls to play with on club night, the cost of club night has increased to £1.50.

Acle Tennis Club Committee

We still have vacancies for Membership Secretary and Junior Rep, so if you would like to get more involved with the club please contact Andrew Sherwood for more information.

Clubspark App

Clubspark now have their own app which makes booking courts easy. It can be downloaded onto smartphones, ipads or ipod touches, just search for 'clubspark' in the app store and download for free.
