Match Reports

Acle Ladies D v Cringleford C

Both pairs – Rachael and Harrie/Holly and Victoria lost their match to Cringleford's first couple only managing to win a few games but were successful with a draw 8-8 and a win 14-2 against Cringleford's second couple. Cringleford are at the top end of our league so we did very well to have a final score of 25-39 to Cringleford.

Acle Ladies D v North Elmham

We were hoping for a win to finish off the season. Julie and Harrie played well together and ended up with a draw in games, losing 7-9 and winning 9-7. Kathy and Margaret lost 6-10 in their first match. After an initial start of drawing in their second match 2-2 they were unable to win any further games resulting in a win for North Elmham overall.

Thanks to all the players in this team this season as you have all played with a good spirit and enjoyed the matches many of which were very close. Looking forward to next summer and more wins!

Acle Mixed Vets B v Cringleford

The team travelled to Cringleford on Monday 7th August. Simon Darter played with Mike Lake in the men’s match and lost 0/2, but the ladies, Sabine Darter and Jane Jackson, won 2/0. So at half time the result was 2 each with all to play for. In the second half Mike played with Jane and Simon with Sabine and both teams won 2/0, giving Acle a fine 6/2 result .We remain top of division 3 in our first season with one match left to play (against EA). Well done team!

Ladies C Team

Several results all in one go for the Ladies C team - mainly due to the Captain being away on walking holidays and showing lack of organisation!

Home to East Anglia - Louise, Lan, Helen and Beverley put on a great display and got us a home win.

Home to Stanmore was rained off and re-arranged for 8th August. Stanmore did their normal dirty trick that the Men's team know all about and brought in 3 players who don't normally play for the B team. Annoying. Lan Julia, Caroline C and Beverley had some good games but lost 25-39.

Away to Gorleston - postponed by them due to last minute injuries. Laura, Lan, Beverley and Caroline D played against top of the league girls and fought hard. Really well played - we lost but only 30-34. Overall, although Gorleston are going to go up we lost both home and away but by the same very close score - well done Ladies.

Away to Cromer - Lan, Julia,Holly and Vic. Playing on grass is always difficult when you aren't used to it but poor old Vic had never played on grass before!! Unfortunately there had been torrential rain the day before and the grass hadn't been cut for the match. Beautiful to look at but deadly to play on. Their players stood mid court and didn't appear to move as the balls didn't bounce at all! Frustrating. We lost 20-44 . AND the chip shop had closed when we got to it on the way home.

Away to Carrow. Re-arranged twice due to their committments and rain. Now asking to start at 6pm due to lack of light - so captain agrees and tells all team members- Beverley, Lan and Jane - to be there early for the start and the fact that they never give you time to knock up. So at 5.50pm Beverley phones Julia, 4th team member, who is stuck in Wroxham due to an accident. And I sat there until 6.10pm. So, head all over the place and rushing onto court we began. Fortunately Lan and Jane won 12-4 and14-2, for which I am extremely grateful. Beverley did her best to play without a partner - Julia had the worst games ever! We lost 11-5 and 10-6 but WON overall 37-27. Phew.

End of season I think we've finished 4th - possibly 3rd but thanks to all team members for some great tennis this year. Vacancy for a captain who can keep it together!!
