New Court Sweeper has Arrived

We are very grateful to the Cheape Trust for their financial assistance in the purchase of a powered  court sweeper which is a very necessary tool required to keep our 4 artificial grass tennis courts in tip-top condition. The sweeper arrived on Tuesday and as you can see, has already been put to good use.

Work has started on Court 2 which had been badly affected by moss over the winter and then became covered with a thick layer of beach sand following a recent storm.  This picture shows the difference after just one pass with the new sweeper.  At least 20 wheel barows full of sand and moss were removed from this one court.

The mossy areas are very obvious now that the surface is free of sand so they can easily be targeted with a long term moss killer.  The moss treatment takes about a week to take maximum effect after which the court can be brushed again to remove the remaining organic matter before it can be lightly re-sanded (with the correct type of sand) to put it back in perfect playing condition.

Treating the remaining courts, one at a time, will take place over the next few weeks.
