Well done to everyone who represented one of Ashby’s teams this year. As it stands, Ashby are top of the Leicestershire divisions in the 9&U, 10&U, 11&U boys, 12&U boys and 16&U girls.

We also entered several teams into the national premier divisions, this involved a lot of travelling and commitment from both players and parents. The 14&U boys A team won the Midlands division and qualified for the national finals at the National Tennis Centre in Roehampton. During the weekend they lost an extremely close semi final against Reed’s school on a tie break shootout after drawing 3 matches each. The squad of Ben, Harry, Dylan, Harry, Joe and Will gave everything over the season and finals weekend and should be very proud in finishing as the 4th best team in the country!

A big well done also to the 14 junior players who have represented the senior teams this season including Matthew, Ethan, Noah, Harry and Dylan who contributed to the men’s first team being promoted back into the premier division!

Player achievements The following junior players have represented their county this year at county cup: Josh, Harry, Joe, Joe, Dylan, Will, Ace, Sophie, Evie, Hanna, Oscar, Toby, Seb, Ben, Harry, Dylan, Dylan, Sam, Jess & Ffion. Representing your county is a fantastic achievement and something the players should be proud of.

Well done also to Joe Harris who after winning the club stage and the county stage of the Road to Wimbledon, will compete at Wimbledon for a week on the grass courts in August, a fantastic opportunity!

Tournaments

During the Summer we have the annual Ashby Town tournament taking place from 8-14th August. The event, sponsored by FHPESS, has events from 8&U to veterans so there is something for everyone! You can enter online through the LTA website.

We are also delighted to have been selected to host two grade 3 events during the Winter season. There will be a weeklong grade 3 tournament during October half term and during the Christmas break. More information to follow.

We are excited to be running another tournament trip to Cardiff this year after unfortunately missing out last year. 29 junior players will be travelling aged between 10 and 15 to compete in the grade 3 event!

Community Tennis Over the Summer term, the ACLTC coaching team have delivered tennis sessions in schools to over 400 children aged between 4 and 7. This has been a great way of getting new children engaged in the sport and enjoying giving it a try. If you would like your child’s school to be more involved with tennis, do let us know!

We would also like to give a reminder that the Ikin trust is available. This was set up by Ken Ikin to support juniors financially and if you would like a discussion for further details or to make an application, please get in touch.

Message from Alex I’ve been overwhelmed with all of the messages after finishing runner up in the national coach of the year awards. This wouldn’t have been possible without such supportive parents and hardworking players to work with and I’m very grateful to everyone that I work with who make my job so enjoyable! As always, if you have any coaching related questions, please get in touch alexguzder@hotmail.co.uk or 07931412238
