Dr John Crispin Dixon (1952-2020)
We are very sad to announce the sudden death of John Dixon.
Most of you will have known John as the Chair of the Berkshire League Committee and for his responsibilities in overseeing both the Berkshire Winter League, and the National League (formerly Team Tennis), for both adults and juniors.
John had a true passion for tennis and was always looking for ways to improve the standards of competition. He worked closely with the LTA Competitions department and was a key supporter of the doubles measure, as way to provide a more accurate measure of ability. In 2020, the LTA launched the new ITF World Tennis Number player rating system where players can have both a doubles and singles rating, although unfortunately John will not be able to witness this since its launch has been delayed due to the pandemic.
John was also an active member of Bracknell Tennis club for many years. He was instrumental in obtaining funding for the new clubhouse at Bracknell. This transformed the club and made it what it is today.
John was appointed to the Berkshire LTA Committee in 1991 for two years. He was re-appointed in 2002 and has served on the Committee ever since. John had a great love of tennis and could always be relied on for answers to any queries regarding the Leagues and Rules.
John made annual trips to France for the Monte Carlo Open, and Roland Garros and he loved Wimbledon. Outside of tennis he was an avid skier and spent several weeks in Zermatt, Switzerland, every Winter.
Earlier this year he had health issues but came through a difficult time, despite Covid-19, only to suffer a sudden and fatal heart attack.
He was a friend and a colleague at both the Berkshire County Office, and Bracknell Tennis Club - he will be deeply missed by all. We at the Berkshire County office will always remember his quote “Never forget, 33 adult members per court make your club sustainable!”
