Over 50 members, old and new, gathered at Norwood Park on 14 July 2019 to celebrate the Centenary of Beverley Town Tennis Club. Old members from far and wide gathered in glorious weather to commemorate this special occasion in the club’s history and they were treated to a ‘Wimbledon’ tea of sandwiches, cakes, strawberries & cream and Pimm’s.
The club which was formed on 25 March 1919, has received funding from East Riding of Yorkshire Council of £21,000 and Tesco Bags of Help Scheme of £1,000 towards the resurfacing of its hard courts and plans are underway to improve the playing surface of the grass courts.
The day also saw the reunion of the club’s legendary Big Six tennis team who went two years unbeaten in the Driffield League Men’s Division 1 and Men’s Knockout Cup as well as winning the Golden Oak Trophy in Malton.
