Birkdale LTC AGM 2024

This month we will be hosting our annual general meeting in the Birkdale Lounge on Monday 25 March at 7pm.

The agenda should now be on the website as well as a physical copy on the tennis section noticeboard in the main clubhouse, accompanied by the accounts, nominations list and last year’s minutes.

We are always looking to welcome new volunteers so please put your name down if you wish to get involved.

See you all there!

Match Practice and Preseason Inter-club Friendly

Match practice for 2024 will start the week beginning the 1 April. However, if the weather is looking promising and interest is keen, we may arrange a club night for all players on Tuesday 26 March at 6:30pm - so stay tuned!

We have decided to start match practice a week earlier than in previous years as many clubs have been starting earlier  as the weather is often unpredictable and can lead to players having little opportunity to play  before the season.

A link to join group chats for Monday (1st, 2nd and 3rd) and Tuesday night (4th and 5th) match practice will be released nearer the time on the announcements page.

This year we have again entered junior teams in each age group and match practice has already begun for them. Well done to Namrita and Mark for all their hard work with the junior section.

Thanks also to Simon who has arranged a pre season inter club friendly between Aughton LTC at home on Sunday 21 April at 2pm. Good luck to all those playing!

Tennis Pavilion and Court Improvements

The ongoing refurbishments to our beloved tennis pavilion are continuing at pace with work to the toilet facilities hopefully being completed by the end of the month.

Over the last few weeks work has taken place on our new courts, including our new court signage, the replacement of the faulty floodlight bulb and gate on court 3. Further work soon to be completed includes the installation of our new windbreaks to go around the courts and a new net for court 4.

The committee is also working hard to explore the option of getting pickleball courts installed next to the pavilion and is currently in discussions with the main club.

Thank you to Denise, the committee and those volunteering for all their hard work!

Tennis Holiday

If you like piña coladas, then write to Simon and escape to Santa Ponsa, Majorca! Simon is organising a weekend tennis trip for this September.

He is still in the process of gathering information on prices  and dates but is hoping to have details confirmed very soon so please stay tuned if you are interested.

Tentative weekends include:

  • 13th to 15th Sept
  • 20th to 22nd Sept
  • 27th to 30th Sept

We hope you will all have a great time!
