Playing Matches

The best way to test everything the children are learning from their coaching sessions is for them to play and enjoy tennis matches!  At Bishop’s Stortford, we aim to cater for all abilities by providing a number of ways in which the children can get experience of match play, from internal competitions to being able to represent the club within Hertfordshire.

For each LTA development stage, the more matches your child plays the higher their LTA ranking becomes!  Their ranking then becomes even higher as they grow in confidence and win more and more matches.

Red and Orange Ball Competitions.  For children 9 and under, we run Red and Orange ball tennis competitions monthly at the club which are open to all children that are members.  As much as possible, the children are encouraged to play other children of similar abilities in these competitions.  Please contact juniors@bsltc.co.uk if you are interested in either Red or Orange ball competitions.  A small charge is made of £4 per session.

Green and Yellow Ball Box Leagues.  Tennis box leagues operate a bit like Squash Ladders, and are a great way for similarly skilled tennis players to play each other regularly, to encourage overall improvement.  Introducing the children to box leagues at this stage in their development prepares them for entering the adult box leagues at the club when they are ready to.  Please contact coaches@bsltc.co.uk if you are interested in either our Green or Yellow box leagues.

Representing the Club.  The club enters teams for all age groups into both the Summer and Winter Hertfordshire leagues, and this involves a number of home and away games across the County.  Parents on the club’s junior committee help out by taking on the role of team captain to ensure that all the right players arrive at the right club to play the right matches!  To be eligible to play for the club, our Head Coach will have made a recommendation to the relevant team captain that the child is ready to play for that team. The club pays all the tournament fees, provides drinks and snacks, but in return asks that the parents of children that represent the club are as committed as possible.  Please contact our Head Coach on Coaches@bsltc.co.uk for further information.
