1st Team Mixed Doubles

The 1st Mixed Team started their season playing Sawbridgeworth 1 on Sunday 15th October.  Pete Harris and Sally Tinney won their first game against the 2nd pair 6-2, 7-5, 0-1 (10-2 in the tie break).  They then lost against the 1st Pair 6-2,6-2.

Matt Burns and Joys de Graaf put up a good fight with some excellent points but lost their match against the 1st Pair 6-0, 6-0 and the 2nd pair 6-1, 6-0.

It was a beautiful sunny day with an excellent atmosphere for the top division.  We will have to see if we can get a win under our belts so we can stay there!

On a chilly but beautiful autumnal mourning at Broxbourne Tennis Club, the 1st mixed doubles team lost 1-3 against very strong opposition. Both Bishops Stortford couples lost to their first pair 3-6, 4-6 and 1-6, 2-6 and had very competitive matches against their second couple, the first pair winning 7-5, 6-3 and our second couple narrowly losing on a championship tie break 5-7, 6-3, 8-10. The match was played in very good spirits.

Over 40's

The Over 40s are in Division 3B for the 2017/18 winter league, and played their first match away at a sunny Broxbourne on Sunday 29th October.  Jolie May, Chrissie Fothergill, Judith Teall and Clare Mahoney enjoyed a great standard of tennis from very friendly (and in the case of one pairing, very tall!) opponents, with BS eventually coming away with a 4-4 result.  Bishop’s Stortford however won 4 more games which can often prove crucial at the end of the season.

The team’s next match is at home to Orchard on Sunday 7th January … that’s if snow / ice / driving rain / gale force winds don’t stop play!

Ladies Over 60s Winter Matches

I have taken over the Captaincy of the O60s Ladies Team for this season. A big thank you from all team members to Kathy Hunt, retiring Captain. Kathy was extremely positive, fair and generous and I hope I can match up to her leadership.

After a very disappointing demotion last winter, the season has started off very well for us. We have three 7-1 victories under our belts against Totteridge, Townsend and Elliswick, which places us nicely at the top of our division. The second place team are 3 points behind but have played one more match – so we are in quite a healthy position, with 3 matches still to play. Thank you to all members of the squad – Bev Bray, Sue Scott, Margaret Power, Nicky Darlington and myself. I hope our success continues and that the weather remains kind to us into the New Year.
