Joanna Waterhouse/Paul Harris (8th seeds) booked their QF berth against Helen Judd/Steve Coleman by beating Joanne Bernstein/Mike Harris in two close sets. Joanne and Mike play Fran and Ben Hughes in the consolation draw.
Less luck for Paul this time as he and Steve Coleman (4th seeds) lost in three hours and three sets to Paul Skelt/Keith Harris. (7th seeds) The latter pair came from a set down to seal a close win on a long hot night.
More success for Keith (3rd seed) with a two set win over Ben Davies in the mens singles main draw. A solid effort from Ben that reflects his improving game. Keith faces Paul in the QF with the latter having a chance to exact revenge for the doubles defeat.
In the men's singles consolation draw; Adam Asif beat Dave Ginger in two close sets. Clear evidence of rapid improvement in Dave's game against a technically strong opponent. Adam faces Rob Melling in the SF match.
In the ladies doubles; No 2 seeds Gill Birrell/Fran Hughes reached July 1st's final by beating no 4 seeds Heidi Bailey/Philippa Hayton in three close sets with lots of deuces and long rallies.
In another 3 set match, No 1 seeds Karen Hirst/Duncan Hurlstone came from a set down to beat No 7 seeds Heidi/Jos Bailey to reach the mixed doubles SF.
In the mens doubles; No 1 seeds Geraint Davies/Phil Huggon won in two sets against Roy Beckett/John Cormack (5th seeds)
In a day of consolation draw matches:
Craig Feldman beat James Hider; while Guy Johnson edged past David Bloom. Both matches played over two tight sets
Meanwhile; Rob Cutts-Watson and Mike Edwards won out over Dave Ginger and Adam Jones in similar fashion
Two junior matches to report. Oliver Bernstein beat Sam Jones in two sets in the U13s; meanwhile Salman Asif beat Harvey Bowcock in three sets in the U18 event.
Finally, in a reversal of last year's QF; Steve Coleman (7th seed) edged past No 1 seed Duncan Hurlstone in two very close rain interrupted sets.
