American Tournament March 2026 (damp!!)

The forecast was 'sub-optimal', and there certainly was some rain to start with, but it ended up being a glorious afternoon - once we had finished playing!

The third team were finishing off a home winter league match as the tournament commenced. As they retreated to the clubhouse for tea and cake, the tournament competitors stepped out onto court.

The format of play for this tournament was:

- 20 minutes doubles matches, the bell starts and stops each game

- sudden death deuce - no advantage played

- winning pair stays on same court and splits up, losing pair move up a court and split up

- each player logs the number of completed games their pair won

- the four players with the highest number of games won enter a winners play-off match

An excellent turnout from the ladies today - outnumbering the fellas 3 to 1!

The tournament closed with fizz and chocs awarded to winners Jim Manekshaw and Carol Pearson. Kudos to the runners up Helen Morten and Joe Manekshaw. Tea and delicious home-made cakes were gratefully consumed.

Thanks to all who made the effort to come down and play, support, organise and bake. You all made it a lovely afternoon!
