League Round Up

Mixed Teams Division Two: Dover and District Summer League and; Ashford Winter League 2023

What a difference the weather makes! Players in last summer’s DDL matches enjoyed
Home and Away week-day evening matches against Hythe, Sandwich and Canterbury with
all matches played as scheduled, but the very wet weather in the recently concluded winter
league caused a headache in match re-organisation

In the summer league Bridge finished third out of four teams, but with only six points
separating the top three teams there were some hard-fought matches so well played
everyone. This year Whitstable is a new club entering the league and with St Margaret’s
dropping down to the second division our team can look forward to playing in a couple of
different venues.

The winter league played at weekends saw the team travel further afield including clubs at
Charing and Headcorn. With a draw in the opening match in October against Hythe the
team started well, and following this with a string of wins it looked like we were on course to
win the division. In the eagerly-awaited four-times postponed last match of the season the
team finished on a high in resoundingly defeating Headcorn A, winning all 4 matches. Unfortunately a mis-
communication regarding the match-date of the penultimate match against Charing meant
an incomplete Bridge team had to concede four points. With the results however yet to be
announced there is a slim chance we could finish well, so watch this space!
