Well, weren’t we lucky with the weather! Blue sky and a bit of winter sun.
Yesterday was our annual
Christmas Doubles Handicap Tournament, in memory of Shirley Leak.
Shirley was a member here since the club opened in 1963. She played many of our handicap tournaments and of course in the York Leagues for many years.
This year for the tournament we had 18 participants divided over two sessions The pairings were given scientifically calculated handicaps - well vaguely correct!!!
Great tennis all day, fast precise serving and exacting spinning returns, despite the very heavy balls.
The final saw Margaret Ward and Steve Newman take the trophy and Christmas mugs in a nail biting match. Just one point at a crucial 19-19, saw Darryl Fisher and Lizanne Southworth sadly defeated
The presentation was made by Shirley’s daughter Christine and her husband. We are extremely grateful to them both. Their presence was really appreciated.
Supper was held at The Drovers in Skipwith.
Many thanks from all the club must go to Shaun Pinchbeck for organising everything. Bubwith Tennis Club enjoys many of these Doubles Handicap Tournaments during the season. For more information take a look at our website.
