Aegon 10U club match Burton v Tettenhall

Saturday 28th April 2018

This was the second match for the team of Sibi Jothlkumar, Benjy Mills, Yusuf Haroun and Leo Emery as the first match was won 12-0 owing to a walkover.

Played in cold and wet conditions, this match was a something of a nail-biting affair as two of the singles matches went to a third set match tie-break. The challenging weather conditions did not prevent some excellent tennis. The match was tied at 2 rubbers all after the singles with wins for Leo and Yusuf. This meant that going into the doubles it was still all to play for.

Leo and Yusuf managed a comfortable win so all eyes were on the last doubles. After losing the first set 4-0 it was looking very likely that the team would have to endure a tie break shoot out to decide the entire match! And so it transpired, however, Sibi and Benjy showed a very courageous spirit and played exceptionally well to win 10-8 in the third set match tie break .What a tense finish!

The match was won 4-2 and Head Coach Alison Smith said she was extremely proud of Burton’s players who “showed a great tenacity and a wonderful team spirit, being very encouraging to each other throughout.”

The next match will be played on May 17th, although for now at least, Burton are firmly top of the table.
