Wheelchair Tennis Coaching

An extremely important aspect of being an LTA Accredited Coach is continually improving your knowledge and regularly attending coaching courses is a big part of this. As a result, one of the three courses club coach Duncan Coates attended this year is the Tennis Foundation's Wheel Chair Tennis Courts.

The journey to Oxford for the course was well worth it as newly retired professional wheelchair player Marc McCarroll was there to offer his expertise. Marc has recently been appointed as new coach to  Andy Lapthorne who is a  triple Paralympic medallist .

The course looked at all aspects of wheelchair tennis from its conception to the practical elements of how to teach the strokes and movements in the chair.Duncan clearly enjoyed this innovative coaching experience: “It was fascinating to see and most importantly experience wheel chair tennis as this is something that I hope we could start to offer at our club.”
