We held a very successful Club Finals day on Saturday 5th September 2020 combining the finals of the Club Championships for both adults and juniors. There was some excellent tennis and very close matches.
I would like to extend my congratulations to all the finalists and in particular to the winners. In the Ladies Singles Jill Lederer retained her title with a dominant display against Liezl Burgess. The outstanding performance of the day, though, was Tauheed Mazloom who not only retained his title in the Boys under 18 competition but also beat Ian Stent in a thrillingly close contest for the Men's Singles title. The tournaments were well organised by Sacha Williams, Suzanne Winship, and David Gill and my thanks are extended to them. They were assisted on the day by a number of members who helped with the setup and umpiring. Liz Mithani, in her apron, gloves and visor provided Covid secure catering, ably assisted by several ladies who provided cakes and drinks. Well done to them.
Hosting the Club Finals in the present Covid restrictions was a challenge but we managed it without contravening any Government regulations and the excellent weather meant that spectators could watch the action from courtside in a socially distanced fashion. Thank you to all who came down to support the finalists.
