Tallantire Twins honoured on International Women's Day

This week's 'DID YOU KNOW?' post is linking in with the club's celebration of International Women's Day.

By linking the two occasions, we are honouring two of the club's most accomplished members in its 100-year+ history, the identical twin sisters Claire and Ruth Tallantire.

While they were only members for just over a decade, their impact proved highly influential and inspiring. Becoming members shortly after WWII, the Ormskirk natives won a combined 15 club tournament titles and regularly represented the club in Lancashire Inter-Club events.

This included winning the clubs ladies singles title collectively for 11 consecutive years, including throughout the 1950's with almost every final between them going deep into a deciding set.

Their achievements at the club culminated in the original ladies doubles trophy from 1961 being officially known as 'The Tallantire Cup'.

While we are highlighting Claire and Ruth, this post goes out to all of our female members past and present. We celebrate all of your contributions within the club as well as your own personal lives.
