Week 3 Round-Up

The third week of the 2023 season had a bit of everything for Carlton's teams. With Monday's rain forcing the first team to rearrange their match, it was the third team that began proceedings.

It ended up being a near perfect performance as they took down Rainford 15-1. With almost everyone securing a bageled set (that's 6-0 for the uninitiated), this was a dominant display by a very experienced squad that was fielded that night. That result puts them in third place behind the early breakaway leaders North Meols 5 and Sphynx 4.

Next saw the first team ending up being locked in an 8-8 stalemate with local rivals Birkdale 2. With neither side finding a way of controlling the match, the points were rightly shared. That vital point has Carlton's first team in second place. With many promotion contenders left to play, Carlton's first team have put themselves in a strong position going into those encounters.

Completing the week was the second team, who sadly fell 13-3 to a Formby 4 side that are aiming for consecutive promotions and division titles. A couple of halved results by long-time member Dave Mulligan was the highlight from a Carlton perspective. But with Formby's strength in depth particularly on the women's side, it proved too much for Carlton and that result keeps them with a solitary point to their name so far this season.

Next week has a couple of trips to North Meols in store as our first team take on North Meols 3 and our third team do battle with seventh division leaders North Meols 5 on Tuesday and Thursday respectively. Back at home, our second team will host the tough test of Campion 1 to begin the week on Monday.

Thank you to everyone who competedfor our club this past week and good luck to all the teams next week.
