Week 5 Round-Up

Two out of three aint bad for Carlton as wins for their first and third teams made it a largely successful week 5 of the 2023 season.

At Hightown, the third team battled not only their opponents but the tricky grass courts. However, a number of strong performances gave them a well earned 9-7 win.

A couple of convincing wins from members Dave Mulligan, Kelly Cooper, Clive Bruford and Jenny Benge were the highlight in this memorable win. This win keeps Carlton in the mix for a potential promotion charge in the seventh division.

The first team were also back to winning ways as they ended up 10-6 winners over Ormskirk 3 in what was a tight contest. With both sides locked together for the majority of the contest, a draw looked to be on the cards. However, a couple of near perfect straight sets wins by both ladies doubles pairs gave Carlton another valuable two points to their 2023 campaign.

With no club in their division pulling away or falling behind, a win of any kind is more crucial than ever.

Sadly for the second team, it was a week to forget as they were wiped off court by Ormskirk's fourth team 15-1. The only set claimed by Carlton was in the second of the two men's doubles matches by the experienced duo of Clive Bruford and Dave Mulligan.

Week 6 sees the second and third teams at home taking on Birkdale 3 and Formby 5 respectively, whilst the first team travel to Blundellsands to face off against their second team.

Thank you to everyone who competedfor our club this past week and good luck to all the teams next week.
