Week 6 Round-Up

For the first time this season, it was wins all round for Carlton's three teams in week 6 of the 2023 season. It also saw back-to-wins for our first and third teams for the first time this year in their respective campaigns.

A narrow lead after the mixed doubles was maintained by the first team in their away encounter at Blundellsands 2 to record a crucial 10-6 win. A couple of straight sets win in both women's doubles sealed the victory. With this win putting keeping them in second place in the third division, this recent win sets them up nicely for next week's clash against division leaders Argyle 1.

Back home, the second team made quick work of Birkdale's third team with a dominant 16-0 win. With very little threat coming from Birkdale, Carlton capitalised and might an unexpectedly quick evening. That result takes them out of the relegation zone for the time being.

Completing the set of three wins out of three for the week was the third team, as they produced an impressive 11-4 win over Formby's fifth team. With the match looking finely balanced after the mixed doubles, Carlton took it up a few gears only dropped one set after the halfway point.

A big congratulations to member Shane Hutton who made his debut for the club this week for the third team. A contribution of three sets was his reward for a strong beginning to Hutton's playing campaign at Carlton.

Next week sees the first half of the season come to a conclusion. While the first team travel to Argyle to take on their first team in a top of the table clash, the second and third teams are at home against Mawdesley 3 and Birkdale 4 respectively.

Thank you to everyone who competedfor our club this past week and good luck to all the teams next week.
