Week 10 Round-Up
Thu, 08 Jul 2021 00:00
Much like in the same stage of the first half of the season, this week was always going to be a tough one for Carlton Lawn Tennis Club.
A 15-1 loss for the 1st team over a Formby 1 side with ambitions of promotion began the week. The honor of claiming the 1 set was top mixed pair Carl Mulligan and Christelle Leboe. While that result puts them back to 6th in the table, they are also 1 point off 3rd.
Another team that played against their respective division leaders, was our 2nd team. They only managed to do slightly better in their 14-2 loss to Hillside 2. The honor of the 2 went to the mixed pair of Mick Walsh and Emily Miller. That defeat still keeps them 1 point off a promotion spot.
As for the 3rd team, it was a much more competitive outing as they fell 10-6 to the always unpredictable Town Green team. Despite a fair amount of rain leading up to the match, a dry spell along with some helpful court maintenance helped the match go ahead.
Despite the 3rd team moving down to 6th in their division, the remaining matches all resulted in victories in the first half of the season.
In the Liverpool league, a 3-3 draw was achieved against Mossley Hill A despite ourselves being unable to fill a complete team due to clashes with Southport league matches. That point keeps the team in mid-table in what has become a tight and unpredictable division. and could prove to be an exciting 2022, when promotion and relegation returns.
Thank you to everyone who competed for the club this past week. Next week sees both the 1st team travel to Hightown 1 and the 2nd team host Ormskirk 4 on the Monday.
Wednesday sees the 3rd team travel to take on Mawdesley 5. There is no Liverpool League match this week.
