Week 4 Round-Up

Week 4 of the 2023 season begloned to the 2nd team, as they recorded their first win of the season with an 11-5 home win over an always tricky Campion 1 side.

A couple of comfortable straight set wins by mixed doubles pairs Steve Benge and Sue Hurst as well as Iain Davidson and Lorraine Noble put Carlton into a narrow 5-3 lead at the halfway point. After that, only two sets were dropped by Carlton for the remainder of the contest. The highlight being a ruthless 6-0, 6-1 win by David Grice and club captain Mick Walsh in their men's doubles clash.

Tuesday saw the first team suffer their first loss of the season with a tough 13-3 defeat against a strong North Meols 3 side. Despite their efforts, North Meols looked firmly in control throughout the evening. Despite the unfortunate result, team captain Kris Cooper remains hopeful of a successful season ahead of them.

North Meols continued to frustrate Carlton as their fifth team toppled our own third team 12-4 to end the week. With a few chances to potentially snatch a draw, it was North Meols that claimed the majority of the important points. This match also saw the debut of member Patrick Fitzsimons who produced a valiant showing with a number of well fought encounters.

Next week sees double Ormskirk for Carlton, as our first team return home to host their third team and the second travel to do battle with their fourth team. As for the third team, they will be off to the grass courts of Hightown to take on their second team.

Thank you to everyone who competedfor our club this past week and good luck to all the teams next week.
