Pre-summer Newsletter

Welcome to our pre-summer newsletter!

As I write this, Storm Mathis rages outside in what is clearly a harbinger of glorious sunny days just, just over the horizon. Surely?

In any event, we hope that you are ready for a balmy summer of dynamic and fun tennis at Chagford Tennis Club.

You should all now have recieved a reminder that club membership fees are now due for the 2023-4 season. If you haven't received a reminder, please sign up and renew your membership on Clubspark, under ‘Membership’ here. Kindly note that the new season starts tomorrow - 1 April.

We would also recommend that you sign up for ‘Find a Playing Partner’ on Chagford Tennis Club WhatsApp if you need to see who is available to play at any particular time. Let us know if you have any issues finding the group.

Court Repainting

Following the revamp of the clubhouse, the courts will also be repainted sometime in April/May, whenever the liquid sunshine permits. This will take 4-5 days to complete so it won’t take too much time out of the season. This means that this year there will be little doubt as to whether the ball was in - not that we're expecting that to stop or even reduce any such "discussions" (looking at YOU, Bauer).

Coaching

Adults

We have secured the wonderful services of our award-winning coach, Grant Notten, once again this year albeit at a slightly reduced level due to his commitments as coach at Exeter University. However, we can confirm the following coaching sessions on Fridays:

  • Mens’ League team players from 11.30-1.00pm.
  • A golden rackets plus mixed doubles session from 1.30-3pm (matchplay practice).

Maximum numbers will be capped at 10 for each session, £10 per 90 minute session, which includes Grant's expert tuition. Both sessions will start on April 21st.

Players will be asked to book and confirm their slot directly on Clubspark prior to each session - yes, we now also have a dedicated Coaching page there too.

For those who aren't yet at the golden/league level (ex-Rusties/Silvers), or who just want to improve technique, our Chairman Martin will be running enjoyable coaching sessions prior to that. Martin will be getting his Level 1 LTA coaching in July, but nonetheless starting guided sessions at the beginning of May onwards so ensure you keep an eye open for more.

Juniors

We are still working on our junior coaching offer, so watch this space.

Club sessions

Open club sessions will remain on Wednesday and Saturday afternoons

League Tennis

Chagford Tennis Club has again entered a Mens’ League team in the Summer League under the captaincy of Ian Renwick. We have a good pool of accomplished players for this years’ league matches so we are hoping to perform well in the league table.

Whilst it has been difficult last year to raise a full Ladies’ team, it was decided to enter a mixed doubles team in the summer league. Rachel has been made Captain of the Mixed Doubles team.

Anyone (Ladies and Men) interested in playing mixed doubles in the league should contact Captain Rachel either on the Chagford Tennis Club WhatsApp group ‘Mixed Doubles’ or contact Rachel directly on 07482 541274.

The full fixture list is available on our website.
