The Senior Ladies Cheshire Shield was held as a one-day event indoors at David Lloyd Trafford Park on Saturday 30th November. It was the first time that the competition had been played in this format and 8 teams from clubs in Cheshire entered. Each team was made up of 4 players over 50. In the first round, the teams were placed into round robin groups of 4 and each team played a match against the other teams in the group. The matches consisted of the first pair in the team playing 8 games against the first pair in the other team, with no ad scoring, and the second pairs also played 8 games against each other. The order in the groups was decided by the total number of games won by each team. The two leading teams in each group then played in a knockout draw to decide the winners of the Cheshire Shield with a third-place play-off using the same match format. The other two teams in each group went into a similar draw as division 2. Bowdon won their group and beat Alderley Edge, who were runners up in their group, to reach the final. They were joined in the final by Heswall, the winner of the other group, after they beat Bramhall Lane who had finished runner-up in their group. Bowdon won a close final to win the Senior Ladies Cheshire Shield. Brabyns beat Hoylake in a close division 2 final, and Ryecroft beat Macclesfield in the third place play off. The presentation was made by Cheshire LTA President, John Hilton. He thanked the referee John Doe and the rest of the organising committee, Russell Lawrence and Jean Thistleton, for running the event, and said he had received favourable comments about the new format from all the teams.
