14U Boys Team Captain Stuart Murray and Vice Captain Ed Rowland took a team of 6 boys down to Sutton for their County Cup weekend.
The team comprised Ethan Barrett, Guy Bradshaw, Andy Brisdon, Oliver Critchley, Oliver Hague and Ilias Hirani Worthington.
Day 1 got off to a flying start with a straight 6-0 win over the Channel Islands and this continued on Day 2 with another 6-0 win against Norfolk. Despite some amazing performances, the team lost 5-1 to a very strong Surrey side who were also the eventual winners. The final day saw more excellent tennis and close scores but the match ended with a 4-2 defeat to Hampshire & IOW.
So the team finished a very respectable 3rd place in a tough group.
Meanwhile the girls had a short trot over to Manchester for their event with Team Captain Mark Hunter supported by Vice Captain Sarah Lawton and rather a lot of Cheshire parents who had come to support the team - thank you!
The team comprised Debra Abraham, Elena Asgill-Whalley, Julia Garcia Diaz, Phoebe Mitchell, Ashira Murray and Abi Redman.
Day 1 saw the girls up against the strong team, and eventual winners, Lancashire. The players competed well and a couple of sets went to tie-breaks but the girls sufferred a harsh 6-0 defeat. Day 2 was against Northumberland and with grit and determination, Cheshire won 6-0, showing great spirit after that first day defeat. That determination continued on Day 3 against Durham & Cleveland with the team winning 2 third set match tie breaks and another 6-0 win.
The team finished a well deserved 3rd place.
Well done to all and thank you for representing Cheshire!
