LTA President's Visit to Cheshire

David Rawlinson travelled to the County on August 28th for the Presentation to five Cheshire winners of Regional LTA Awards (more than any other county) and two Cheshire winners of National Awards, which was unprecedented for the County.  The presentations took place at Hoole LTC, National LTA Club of the Year and was also attended by Alex Beaumont and Iain Lancaster from the LTA, Paul Bennett and Nicki Harrison from LTA North, as well as several CCLTA volunteers and invited guests. Arrangements were meticulously put in place to adhere to all Covid restrictions.

After the Awards David was taken to Prenton LTC on the Wirral, where he chatted to volunteers and witnessed a thriving Fun Friday session enjoyed by young players and their parents sitting at socially distanced tables on the lawn, enjoying a drink in the evening sunshine!

On Saturday, Bramhall Lane Lawn Tennis Club was privileged to welcome David as part of a whistle stop tour of three more Cheshire clubs.  As well as chatting to volunteers at the club, he willingly joined in some fun 'match play' with a group of performance juniors, alongside James Turner, Head Coach and former ATP player.

Sue Morrison of LuSu Sports Ltd also came along with some of her incredible young players and David again joined in to make it a day they wouldn’t forget.

Sue recently won the LTA Disability National Award for her and her partner Louise's trail blazing work with children and adults with disabilities.  It was amazing to hear what a huge positive effect sport has had on these people, and equally amazing to witness Sue connect and have so much fun with them.

David then travelled through the Cheshire countryside to visit Alderley Edge LTC where he was able to enjoy an al fresco sandwich lunch while watching a cricket match and chatting to volunteers.  An idyllic setting!  Following a brief rest, he then took to the court again to join in some tennis activities and chat to the coaches and players. The final club to be visited was Alsager, the most southerly club in Cheshire. There was a vibrant social mix in session filling all the courts and David met enthusiastic volunteers, members and the CEO of StreetGames.
