Ladies Cheshire Shield 2019

The young team from Widnes Tennis Academy retained the Cheshire Shield at Bramhall Lane Tennis Club on Sunday 30th June.  The event was staged on one day with 8 teams taking part.  The teams played in round robin groups in the first round. The group winners and runners-up went into a draw to decide the winners of the Cheshire Shield. The other teams went into a draw to decide the winners of the Plate.

Widnes won their round robin group and beat Wallasey Manor in the semi-final.  Bramhall Lane were the other group winners and beat Nantwich in a tight semi-final which was decided by a tie-break between one player from each pair.  In the final, the first pairs each won 8 games, but the Widnes 2nd pair proved to be too strong for the pair from Bramhall Lane.  Nantwich beat Wallasey Manor to take 3rd place.

Heswall beat Bowdon Lawn to reach the Plate final where they met Neston, who had beaten Davenport. Neston won a hotly contested Plate final on a tie break.

The organisers thanked Bramhall Lane Tennis Club for the use of the club and for the excellent refreshments.
