Cheshire Mini Red Challenge Cup 2023

Cheshire Mini Red Challenge Cup 2023

We held our inaugural Cheshire team event on Sunday 8th October at Birchwood Tennis Centre. Thirteen clubs entered teams into the competition, and Alderley Edge even entered two! That was amazing because we made the event 7U. It was fantastic to see so many young players out on court.

The centre was buzzing, the energy was high, and the competition was fierce. Mike Atherfold did a brilliant job of running the event, supported by a team of enthusiastic young scorers. I am impressed with how they kept the matches moving along.

Teams played in round robin boxes, with Widnes, Neston, Birchwood, and Hoole finishing top of their respective groups. The semis were hard fought-tight ties, with Neston edging out Widnes and Birchwood beating Hoole. In an extremely tight final, Birchwood finally won the event 4-2. It was a great effort by all.

The day couldn’t have run without club coaches and organisers, whose efforts to select teams, prepare players, and to captain throughout the day were brilliant. Participating clubs were, Alderley Edge, Birchwood, Bowdon, Bramhall Lane, Bowdon, David Lloyd Cheadle, Hale, Heswall, Hoole, Hoylake, Lymm Neston, Poynton and Widnes.

Thank you from the Cheshire team to everyone who made this day possible.

Looking ahead, start preparing your teams for next year’s competition and mark the date in your diary— 6th October, 2024.
