Cheshire 35 & Over Mixed Doubles County Championships ‘23

The final outdoor County Championship tournament of 2023 took place on 24th September at Bowdon LTC. Despite a disappointing low entry of just 7 pairs, it’s fair to say the overall standard of this year’s entries made for a number of well contested good quality matches involving players who are of county standard.

The format ensured all pairs played each other in a series of round robin matches. By the time it came to the last round of matches the winning pair was still in doubt with any of three couples in with a chance of taking the title. In the end it was a dominant performance by Ben Roberts & Anna Karavayeva (Bramhall Lane LTC) who maintained an unbeaten record that ensured they took the title with Phil Spencer & Katie Thornewill (Bowdon LTC) who finished as runners up having only lost one match out of six.
