Box League
A new round of the highly popular box league starts soon. This is a great opportunity to play singles against other members of a similar standard. If you’re not already in, then please contact Ed Thorn at edwardthorn46@gmail.com by 30th September at the latest. If you’re already in, then you will automatically be entered in the new round, unless you failed to play any matches in the current round. If that’s the case and you want to stay in, or if you’re in and you want to be out, then please contact Ed.
Summer Play
We hope you have all had a good Summer and have managed to enjoy playing or watching some tennis. At the beginning of July a doubles tournament was organised by Jo Martin. There was a good turnout and the sun was shining for all the players. The winner was Sean Saga, followed by Lucas Quinn. Tied in 3rd place was Leonie Orhan/Aldas Gustas - see photograph.
A further Tournament was held at the end of July which produced another session of great doubles. The winner this time was Leonie Orhan, closely contested by Benji Caplin and then Alistair Hillhorst.
Ladies Middlesex League First Team
The Ladies First Team led by Alison Rust and Katie Ellen are getting ready for the Winter season. The first match is away to Whittington on Sunday 22nd September. There are two further matches this year, the first against Lensbury at home and the second away to Lammas Park. Good luck with all your matches.

Wimbledon Ticket Ballots
The public ballot opened on 2nd September for anyone who’d like a chance to go to Wimbledon next summer. For more information go to https://www.wimbledon.com/en_GB/tickets/the_wimbledon_public_ballot.html Members should also be able to opt in to the LTA Advantage ballot using their LTA membership here: https://www.lta.org.uk/advantage-home/benefits/
Chiswick National Hedgehog Monitoring Programme
During early Summer, London Hogwatch and Wild Chiswick placed a camera in the grounds of Chiswick Tennis Club in order to monitor the hedgehog population and their activity. Hedgehog activity was detected in the grounds as well as lots of fox activity. Cameras were also placed in the allotments and in Chiswick House Grounds. The hedgehog activity monitoring programme will be resumed again next year.
Court Booking
Members are kindly reminded that it is necessary to book a court on Clubspark before playing or practising. Courts should only be booked for one hour after 1800. Please do not turn up and hope a court is available as this leads to confusion especially with late bookings.
If you are using the courts before the booking period i.e 0800 please use court 4 to ensure that the residents of the Stoll memorial home next door are not disturbed. Thank you for your co-operation.
There have been occasions when chewing gum has been found on the Courts. We would rather members refrained from using gum on the courts but if you do then please dispose of it away from the courts.

Monday Drop-in sessions 8-9pm
These classes are ideal for players who have experience in tennis and are able to maintain a rally when the incoming ball has slow/medium pace without spin and placed close to the player. Players in this class have some experience at volleys and serving but are not yet confident with those shots in a point play situation. While players in this class are able to maintain rallies, they are not yet able to maintain rallies when the incoming ball has speed, spin or requires more movement. Players are also not yet confident at directing the ball or hitting with spin.

Treeworks
The Sycamore trees in the garden have been severely cut back. You may notice that the garden has more light now and there will hopefully be less leaves falling on the courts.
The Garage/Store
The Club is no longer renting out the Garage/Store and in time will use it for the storage of tennis equipment and coaching aids. There may be other uses and we will be happy to hear of any suggestions.
Guttering works
Work will begin this week to repair and refix some of the guttering front and back of the Clubhouse.
