It's great to have so many new faces to fill in for members from last season who chose not to renew for one reason or another.  With this new intake, we are once more back to full strength for peak time members.   All new applicants will need to go on the waiting list for next year's intake.  We will still admit new off-peak members.

COURT BOOKINGS AND CANCELLATIONS
A reminder to please play on the court you have booked. Also, do cancel any courts if they are no longer needed which gives others a chance to book the released court.

CTC LADIES TEAM
I’m pleased to report some very satisfying results for the Chiswick Ladies team. The Monday night team practice sessions have started to pay off and with a larger pool of players they’ve really been able to think about the pairings in terms of strengths on court. The Ladies team have been joined by Lauren Allen who has transferred from Gunnersbury Triangle. The team kicked the season off with a solid win (14:10) against Lammas and Walpole. Riding high on their victory they went on to do battle at home with the first of the 2 teams Teddington have fielded in the same league. Sadly, they narrowly missed out but all wounds were healed in the clubhouse afterwards with Kirsty’s homemade vegetable soup.

Match 3 was away against an intimidating looking team at the Parson Green Sports and Social Club. However, the team got into their stride and remembered some basic rules of doubles like hit the ball into the space - thank you to coach Christian. It seemed the Chiswick Ladies team perhaps had the upper hand in terms of fitness and were able to hold their nerve a little better on the sudden death deuces, resulting in an amazing win of 18:6.

This week the ladies team played David Lloyd Hampton at home and had their most resounding win ever of 20:2. What an excellent win!  Well done to all those who played.

MEN’S TEAM UPDATE
The Middlesex Floodlit League ended in April. The men’s team ended quite strongly, with a narrow loss to David Lloyd Acton Park and a win against David Lloyd Hampton, but that narrow loss to Acton Park means they’ll be in division 6 next winter.

The summer leagues started in April and they’ve now played 4 National League matches and 3 Middlesex League matches. The team have lost all 4 National League matches so far but have a good chance of avoiding relegation if they get a good win in the last match, against Lowlands. In the Middlesex League, they should be at least mid-table in division 5 but have had to concede points due to uncontested sets and now need to get points from some of the stronger teams in the division in order to avoid being drawn into a relegation scrap. Team squad members are asked to update Ed with their availability for these crucial matches coming up in June and July.

CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS
The CTC Club Championships are in full swing with players taking part in both singles and doubles. On 5th June, Alison Rust and Fiona played Lauren Allen and Kirsty Fuller in the Ladies doubles club championship. It was tough to be competitive as all the players are on the CTC ladies team together however a good match was had by all. Lauren and Kirsty won the first set 6:4, Alison and Fiona won the second 6:2 and Lauren and Kirsty won the third set 6:4. Everyone enjoyed a cocktail or two in Little Bird after.

Finals Day is scheduled for Saturday 6th July (Ladies Singles/ Ladies’ Doubles/ Men’s Singles/ Men’s Doubles/ Mixed Doubles).
Details here.

BOX LEAGUE
The CTC Summer Box League has gone slightly quiet since the start of the Club Championships, but should pick up again soon. Players have until the end of September to complete their matches. All results are visible on the Scala Sports app.

NATIONAL HEDGEHOG MONITORING PROGRAMME

On Thursday June 20, a Trail Camera will be installed in the Club Garden.  This Study will help identify Hedgehog populations across Britain, how we can create green corridors and improve habitat to keep this endearing species alive.  The installation will begin in Chiswick House - through to the Chiswick Tennis Club and on to the allotments.

While players in this class are able to maintain rallies, they are not yet able to maintain rallies when the incoming ball has speed, spin or requires more movement.
