March 2021 Update

UPDATE 01/03/2021

We look forward to the return to outdoor tennis (singles, doubles and coaching) on Monday 29th March. Happily this is the day after British Summertime, and with the Easter weekend to follow, there will be every reason to book a court and get out there! (...but do remember to warm up first to avoid any injuries...!)

There are some other important announcements to make, as follows:

1. Court improvements

Prior to the reopening date, the courts will be professionally power-washed, and treated for moss. Then after Easter (date to be confirmed), the courts will be sprayed with binder and repainted. This should protect the courts for at least four years.

2. Membership fees

The reopening also coincides with the start of the new membership year, and with fees due on 1st April.   Members can now renew their memberships here on ClubSpark.

3. Junior Coaching announcement

The new year will also bring with it a new Junior coaching regime.  Jason Harrison has been promoted to Master in charge of Tennis at Eton College, a full-time position, which reflects his ability and one which is fully deserved.  In consequence, Jason has given notice of his resignation as Club Coach with effect from 31st March.  His particular brand of enthusiastic and vocal coaching, over a period of 25 years, will be missed, particularly by the juniors, and we wish him all the best for the future.  We feel sure that the Harrison Family will remain active Club members!

4. New Junior Coaching Arrangements

The good news is that the Club has now entered into a contract, on beneficial terms, with National Tennis Association (NTA), with effect from 1st April.  NTA have existing arrangements with several clubs, including Portcullis, Benson and Blewbury.  We have spoken to the respective Chairs from these clubs, all of whom speak highly of the NTA offering and their coaches. See the Coaching page for more details.

5. Damian Gange and Adult Coaching

We are pleased to report that Damian is keen to resume adult coaching after the lockdown restrictions are lifted, and will be issuing his proposals for the new Club year shortly.  By his own admission, he is a victim of his own success in attracting so many new ‘customers’, and we anticipate that NTA will be able to assist with additional adult coaching.

Best wishes to all
