Christchurch Tennis Club

 

CODE OF CONDUCT

 

Christchurch Tennis Club expects anybody who comes to the club to abide by the following code of conduct, whether they are a club member, a parent or guardian of a club member or are visiting the club as a guest or player.  

 

Christchurch Tennis Club also expects anybody who represents the club in any activity, especially as a player visiting another club, to adhere to the following code of conduct.

 

The Club may suspend or cancel membership for breach of the Club’s code of conduct.

 

 

General Etiquette at Christchurch Tennis Club

 

  • If you wish to play tennis, or hit balls on the court, please become a member first or book via our website as a guest
  • Do not walk behind the courts whist play is in progress
  • Do not use abusive language
  • Do not make gestures which may offend others
  • Always lock the courts and clubhouse if you are the last person to leave

 

 

General Behaviour

 

  • Be fair, considerate and honest in all dealings with others
  • Refrain from any form of harassment of others
  • Maintain a safe environment for the conduct of all club related activities
  • Show concern and caution towards others who may be sick or injured
  • Be a positive role model
  • Operate within the rules and etiquette of the sport
  • Refrain from any behaviour that may bring CTC into disrepute
  • Understand that there may be repercussions for the club by your actions

 

 

All Players

 

  • Win with grace and lose with dignity
  • Play by the rules and enjoy your tennis
  • Avoid arguments with officials or opposing players
  • Respect opponents and always shake hands at the end of a match
  • Control your temper. The verbal abuse of officials, sledging of other players and deliberately distracting or provoking an opponent is not acceptable or permitted behaviour
  • Refrain from ball / racquet abuse
  • Do not interfere with the progress and / or conduct of the game
  • Recognise and acknowledge good play whether it is your own team or the opposition
  • Treat all participants in your sport, as you like to be treated.  Do not bully or take unfair advantage of another competitor
  • Co-operate with your fellow club members, team captains, team-mates and opponents
  • Respect the rights, dignity and worth of all participants regardless of their gender, ability, cultural background or religion

 

 

Coaching Sessions

 

  • Abide by the rules set down by the coaching team
  • Behave in a manner that avoids bringing the game of tennis into disrepute
  • Respect club officials and accept their decisions
  • Talk to the coaching staff if you have concerns

 

 

Parents and Guardians

 

  • Remember that children should participate in sport for their enjoyment
  • Encourage children to participate, do not force them
  • Focus on the child’s efforts and performance rather than winning or losing
  • Always encourage children to play according to the rules and to settle disagreements without resorting to hostility or violence
  • Never ridicule or shout at a child for making a mistake or losing
  • Never ridicule or shout at a child’s opponent
  • Remember that children learn best by example
  • Appreciate good performances and skilful play by all participants
  • Support all efforts to remove verbal and physical abuse from sporting activities
  • Respect club official’s decisions and request and ensure your children do likewise
  • Show appreciation for volunteer coaches, officials and administrators. Without them, your children could not participate
  • Respect the rights, dignity and worth of all participants regardless of their gender, ability, cultural background or religion
  • Do not interfere with the progress and / or conduct of a game
