Coronovirus

2020 has been a very strange year for everyone, especially those at the tennis club.

Firstly we would like to thank you for your patience regarding using the club. We are lucky in that tennis can be one of those games that can be played in a 'socially isolating' fashion. It means that precautions have had to be taken such as leaving the nets up, tying back the gates and not using the chalet. Thank you for your understanding with this. As the golf club operate the gate to the site we too have had to work with them using entrance to the site and there are times when you will need to park on the grass verge on Bent Lane and enter by the stile/footpath entrance.

We would also like to thank you for using the booking system to book courts and waiting in your car until it is your time to enter the court. Also recognising taking care with the use of tennis balls so as not to contaninate and pass on any viruses etc. We have consulted with the LTA and are following their guidelines to the letter and as such there have been plenty of reminders put up around the court. We can assure you that this is for your safety and is recommended by the LTA.

At the present time there will be no decision taken regarding league matches and competitions. As most of these matches are doubles we will need to wait until there are further rounds of de-restrictions before a decision takes place but both the Derby League and Burton League have said they hope to get some competitive matches before the 'end' of the season. The LTA have cancelled Road to Wimbledon and Team Tennis.

Meanwhile if you are looking for a partner for singles matches please email Jeremy Fisk at jerfisk@outlook.com and he will add you to a whatsapp group

In the middle of this we are still trying to continue with club refurbishment and have a small committee who have drawn up  plans on the building of a new chalet between the multi-court and the other courts. They are being considered by South Derbyshire at the moment

We also need to thank Tim Lea who has gone around the site spraying weed killer to try to keep the weeds around the court in order, thanks Tim!

To explain the Early Bird payments. The committee have decided to reduce membership by 25% for the year due to the lost months and extend the Early Bird payments until the end of June. However your membership for 2019-2020 finishes on 31st May, so the Booking system as set up by Clubspark finishes on that date. If you have not renewed your membership but try to book a court during June you will not be able to without payment. Once you have renewed court bookings will be free.

Take Care and Stay safe
