Tennis Update

Good news and bad news!

Dear Members

We are pleased to be able to tell you that most of us are able to start playing tennis again from Wednesday 2nd December. There is a link to the LTA guidance, which we are following, at the end of this email.

Unfortunately, those members who live in Tier 3 areas will not be able to travel to a Tier 2 area to play sport which is a real blow for them.

This means that social tennis can resume as long as we stick to the rules. The most difficult rules for us to follow are, the one about no socialising before or after games, and the one about spectating.

We are in Tier 2 so the rule of 6 applies for spectating. There must be no more than six people off court, waiting to play, and they must be socially distanced. I’m sure we can make it work and therefore as safe as possible.

The wording in the guidance is ambiguous about using the clubhouse, but we have decided it can be open for members to use the toilets.

The Barking Mad Tournament is taking place on Saturday December 5th. Saturday social tennis can take place on courts 4, 5 and 6. In order to minimise unnecessary risk and maintain social distancing, mince pies and mulled wine won’t be served at the tournament. Sorry for this “Bah Humbug” decision but it is sensible.

Craig Leese is able to resume all coaching sessions. Adult coaching is as follows:

Thursday 3rd December 6pm-7pm Mens Team Practice

Saturday 5th December 9am-10am Advanced Adults / 10-11 Interrmediate / 11-12pm Adult Beginners

Tuesday 8th December 7-8pm Ladies Team practice

In the meantime, courts can be booked via the website and the safety rules followed as before. Please enjoy your tennis from Wednesday onwards and play safely.

Kind regards

Lindsay Newton
