September

Too hot for tennis! Who thought we would be saying that for quite a few days this summer, but so it has been.

Did you know the hottest temperature ever recorded at Wimbledon was 35.7 in July 2015 and it gets even hotter in Australia where in the 2014 Open, nine players retired during their first-round matches due to the severe heat, as the temperature soared to 43.9°C.  Those facts may have been overturned by current high temperatures but it’s what the internet search told me at this point!

Let’s hope by the time you are reading this we will be back to ‘normal’ temperatures and can resume our careful watching of weather apps for rain before play.

The Wiltshire league season is over but we have fielded a mixed doubles team regularly throughout this year. While we haven’t won many matches, I am told the teams have fought hard. It’s great to have the club represented. Thank you to those players.

While playing tennis is what the club is all about there’s a fair amount of administration behind the scenes to keep it going and we have had some challenges in the last month or two. Sadly our Chair had to stand down for family reasons and she is much missed. You don’t realise how hard someone is working and how much time they give until they are not able to do so! Big Thanks Di.

Our Vice Chair has stepped into the breach and we are grateful to the club member who has volunteered to take on the role of Welfare Officer.

The Committee is busily on the hunt for a new coach. Callum has found a full time job so could not carry on offering us sessions. We particularly want to be able to re-start some sessions for children and young people as well as individual coaching and group sessions for adults.

Always happy to welcome anyone else who wants to join the Committee. We welcome new faces, new ideas and new talents. No pay but lots of interest and good company to enjoy while helping to make the club work well for all.
