Tennis Singles Ladder

Cowbridge Tennis Club Singles Tennis Ladder 2021

We are pleased to offer members the opportunity to play friendly singles matches against other players through a singles ladder – entry fee is £5 - to run from March to October.  The ladder is accessed through a free app called Sportch that can be downloaded to your phone from the Apple or Google stores.

Watch a video of how to join here.

The Sportch app allows you to easily contact opponents to arrange matches, record results and view rankings and results in real time. The ladder competition is very flexible and open to all  - it does not matter what level you play at or how often you can play. This is a great way to meet and play with players of a similar standard, enjoy some friendly competition and (hopefully) improve your tennis!

After signing up you will be placed in a group with 4 other players within the overall ladder. Your starting position is based on a self-assessed ability rating, but your rating then updates automatically based on your confirmed results. This system ensures you continue to play against players of similar ability.

Summary

  • The singles tennis ladder is open to all players of any ability.
  • You can play against the 4 players closest to you in the ladder at any point in time.
  • You can play as much or as little as you want... there is no commitment.
  • You get flexibility on when, where, and how your matches are played by arranging this with your opponent through the in-app chat.
  • Your ranking and player profile update live as results are confirmed.
  • Your eligible matches will count towards your LTA rating.
  • Your position in the ladder is determined by whether you win or lose matches.

How to join

  • Search for ‘Sportch’ in your app store and download their free app (ios) or (android) or use the web app.

  • Once registered, you’re ready to play – send a request to get started!

MATCHES

  • Players should agree on the format of the match in advance of playing.

While no format is imposed, we do recommend using a recognised format familiar to both players. For example:

  • first to 8 games,(best of 15 games)
  • Fast4 format
  • Thirty30 format
  •  The match is to last up to one hour. If after one hour the match is still in progess, finish the respective game and then record that as the final score.
  •  Alternatively, if the match finishes before the hour please continue to play as a friendly.
  •  At the end of the match, the score should be recorded.
  •  The ladder depends on everyone making the effort to arrange matches.

  • Your ladder admins are John Martin (johnmartin12345@hotmail.co.uk) & Richard Owen (richardsowen.26@gmail.com) who can be contacted if you have any questions.

Prizes will be given to –

  • Winner
  • Runner up
  • Highest Riser 1
  • Highest Riser 2
  • Most Matches played
  • Club selected player

Good luck and most importantly – enjoy!

Thanks

John Martin
