Spring 2024 Updates

April 1st marks the start of the new tennis season and you should have already received renewal information from our new Membership Secretary Sean Thoburn.

The committee will be sharing our weekly and annual timetable of events very soon, however, I am bringing to your attention the upcoming April activities.

Tuesday 2nd April from 5pm

This is our first BST club night.  At this session, we will have a spring clean of the club.  There will also be an opportunity for a refresher on how to use the ball machine, an opportunity to ask any questions about the running of the club and to learn more about how any member can get involved - this will include some new ideas re communication.

Thursday 11th April

The courts cleaning has been rescheduled for this date and the courts will not be available for members.

Saturday 13th April 10am

Pre season club tournament - open to all members of all standards.  As with the last event, a sign up sheet for participation and a second for food contributions will be up on the noticeboard soon.  The tournament format will depend on numbers - find out on the day. (For reference the Saturday league matches do not start until 11th May (TBC))

Sunday 28th April

Kinetic Tennis will be holding a coaching open day, information to follow, please feel free to share with friends and family.

Social Tennis

With regard to the weekly club social times, a new slot is being trialled.  On Thursdays from 4pm until 5.30pm, a club session for juniors is being introduced.

It is hoped this will evolve over the season, initially all junior members are invited to attend at these times.

(As stated in our playing rules, any under 13 attenders would need to be accompanied by a responsible adult.  13 - 18 year olds do not need adult supervision but remain the responsibility of their adults.)

If any members wish to know more about this and how they can support this time, do get in touch.

Aims for the season

  1. To maintain current standards of playing facilities and opportunities for all members to play competitive and social tennis in a safe and comfortable environment
  2. To offer greater opportunities for junior members to play.
  3. To improve communication to members through social media outlets including re-evaluating the website.
  4. To attract new members to the club from all groups within and beyond the local community.

Club Maintenance

A special thanks from the committee for the clubhouse updates recently. A team of volunteers have jet washed the flags, cleared and repaired the guttering and repainted the benches in preparation for the season amongst other jobs, a fantastic example of members contributing their time for the benefit of all.

Here's to the summer!  Are you ready to play?

Regards

Jonathan Crossley
