Did you know that DLTC run singles and double box leagues?

Did you know that DLTC run singles and double box leagues?  It’s a brilliant way to play some competitive tennis and get to meet fellow DLTC members!

The singles league runs from April to September and is open to men, women and junior members of the club and attracts around 20 to 30 people each time.

There are three rounds over the course of the summer, usually lasting around 7 weeks each. Rounds 1 and 2 are box rounds where there will be several boxes with 5/6 people per box where each player will play everyone in their box in a best of 3 sets match and will receive points for each match they play and how many sets they win.

The second round is then based on form with players going into a box with similar points to themselves.

The third round is where the top sixteen highest scoring players from round 2 go into a knockout round to determine who will be the box league winner.

From January we are trialling a doubles box league – same format but a doubles team instead of individual players.  Players can enter as a team or can enter as an individual and we will try to pair them up. Teams can be made up of men, women or mixed and this trial run has 13 teams due to compete in it so far. The doubles box league is a great way to meet new people, be part of a team and improve your doubles play which is the most common form of tennis at club level.

Thanks go to Jason Shanks for successfully organising the box leagues for the last couple of years.
