Course Descriptions

LTA Youth Programme | LTA

LTA Youth Start is for children who haven't played tennis before.  It is a modern approach to tennis training. Forget standing around waiting for your turn to hit a forehand. Think dynamic sessions catered for all abilities.

We want to encourage children to play tennis throughout their lives – and be active too. So, if your child is aged 4-11, why not give it a try?

£29.99 (+£5 P&P) gets you:

  • Six top-class tennis sessions with a specially trained coach
  • A tennis racket and set of balls
  • A branded t-shirt
  • Activity cards, a lanyard, stickers and a certificate (provided by the coach)

Blue (4-6 years)

Young kids are bundles of energy just running around without a care in the world. But the programme is designed to finesse their fine motor skills like balance, agility and coordination. At this stage it’s not about winning or losing but just getting to grips with the basics.

Red (6-10 years)

This looks a bit more like the tennis you know; overarm serves, rallies, scoring. Kids can use their new knowledge to play in competitions as teams or individuals. It’s still soft balls and small courts but they’re learning everything they’ll need for the game ahead.

Orange (9-13 years)

All the skills they’ve been learning are turning them into tennis Titans. Time to throw in some tactics, extra techniques, problem-solving and leadership too; they’re becoming Mini Murray’s before your eyes.

Green (10-14 years)

Where does the time go? They’re fast approaching moody teenagers and so it’s time to let them loose on real, full-sized courts. Now it’s all about fine tuning and refining the techniques they’ve learned over the years. Welcome to the Big Leagues, junior.

Yellow (10-18 years)

LTA Youth Yellow Logo

At the Yellow stage, children are now playing on a full size court with the balls the professionals use. Children will continue to explore different game styles and start to find their own. They will evolve through well-rounded motor skills development whilst improving their physical capacities.

Performance Programme (6-18 years)

For the most talented and committed children there is a Performance programme, which aims to nurture talent and create a more intensive training environment in which the child can strive to reach their full potential.  Performance squads are by invitation only.  Children on the Performance programme are expected to play at least 3-4 times a week, have regular individual lessons and compete in tournaments at least once a month.  They also receive advice on tournament programmes and physical training, as well as video analysis on their technique.
