We offer a junior programme for every ability level with progression as players improve, which is part of the new LTA Youth programme. The groups are structured according to ability and age, starting with Blue and progressing through Red, Orange, Green and Yellow.
Please scroll down below the course descriptions for all the coaching sessions we offer at Dorchester, Wareham and Verwood.
Course Descriptions
Blue (4-6 years)
This introduction to tennis focuses on building strong foundations. Through fun, active games, kids will develop balance, agility, and hand-eye coordination while exploring the basics of the sport. It’s not about winning – it’s about learning new skills and having a blast.
Red (6-10 years)
Get ready to see rallies, volleys, and overarm serves. At this stage, kids will continue to improve speed, coordination, and reaction time. Relaxed, friendly competition is introduced to help develop confidence and teamwork.
Orange (9-13 years)
This is where strategy comes in. Kids will explore tactics, problem-solving, and sportsmanship. They’ll sharpen their match play skills while developing leadership qualities that benefit them on and off the court.
Green (10-14 years)
Stepping up to a full-size court – kids will refine their skills and techniques while learning to handle more competitive situations. These sessions help them grow their game and master the mental side of sports.
Yellow (10-18 years)
With full-size balls on regulation courts, just like the pros. Here, kids continue exploring different styles of play. They’ll focus on developing a game that’s uniquely theirs while building confidence and resilience.
Performance Programme (6-18 years)
For players who have the ability to reach county level and beyond, there is a Performance programme, which aims to nurture talent and create a more intensive training environment in which the child can strive to reach their full potential. Performance squads are by invitation only. Children on the Performance programme are expected to play at least 3-4 times a week, have regular individual lessons and compete in tournaments at least once a month. They also receive advice on tournament programmes and physical training, as well as video analysis on their technique.
