It is the goal of the coaching to give those who attend as many opportunities as possible. The coaching may have been going for over 5 years but tennis is a sport for everyone to last a lifetime.
The Beggining
I started playing tennis at the age of 5 with a Pete Sampras racket and sponge balls. From here I was invited a county training going straight to a normal tennis ball (before mini tennis was a thing).
When I moved to Burton I started playing at Newton Park before joining Burton Tennis and Squash Club where I attended groups and individual lessons.
My Tennis
I have represented East Staffordshire as well as Burton Tennis Club in singles and doubles playing in teams as well as in tournaments for my myself. I won the u18s, men’s, singles and doubles as well as the mix doubles in Burtons internal competitions. I got to 12th in the county at under 16s however it was here that my interest in coaching overtook my own tennis.
My Coaching
My coaching began while still in primary school where I ran the tennis club. From there I began helping the junior tennis sessions with a few different coaches and started obtaining my coaching qualifications at the age of 16.
I then passed my level 2 at 17 and level 3 at 21 after completing a degree at the University of Derby. I completed my LTA Senior Level 4 Qualification at 32 achieving 89% overall mark. I have completed training it Tennis For Kids, Cardio Tennis, Wheelchair Tennis and much more.
Experience
In the last 10 years of coaching experience I have set up and ran groups of all ages and abilities, tournaments, mini award days, school competitions, team matches, summer camps, park tennis and open days. I have taken group lessons with those as young as 3 with players now competing for the county.
I have been to over 20 Schools in the east Staffordshire/South Derbyshire area taking school assemblies, p.e. Lessons and after school clubs. I currently work in 2 schools teaching multi skills at lunch time and in lessons. In 2019 I was nominated for coach of the year by the LTA.
My passion for my coaching is seeing players of all abilities enjoying their time spent on the court and helping them reach their potential whatever level that might be.
