MUGA Usage

Opening

We are having a 'soft opening' period until 9th January 2023 to allow members to start using the facility and to iron out any teething issues.

During this period, the MUGA can only be used by members- go to https://clubspark.lta.org.uk/DunkeldandBirnamSportsandLeisureHub/Membership/Join

Note that the outdoor tennis courts are only available to tennis members (or to others by paying a fee).

How to book the MUGA

You need to book the MUGA either online at https://clubspark.lta.org.uk/DunkeldandBirnamSportsandLeisureHub/Booking/BookByDate#?date=2022-12-22&role=guest (the booking tab of the website) or via the Booker app (as for the tennis courts). The Booker app can be downloaded for both Apple and Android mobile devices- you need to set up an account using the same name and password as when you joined the MUGA (or tennis or bowling club). You will be sent the passcode for the MUGA entrance gate when you book the MUGA.

Other important issues

1. Lights must be SWITCHED OFF when you finish a session. In January, a timer switch will be installed which will switch off the lights after one hour and at 10pm. Until then lights must be switched off manually- this is very important to minimise costs and to minimise the impact on our neighbours.

2. Use of the MUGA must stop and lights be switched off by 10pm at the absolute latest (this is a planning condition)

3. We have installed CCTV cameras to ensure security of the new facility. We will only review the footage if there is damage or misuse of the facility.

4. Please clean your shoes before using the MUGA. We are installing a bespoke shoe scraper at the entrance in the New Year but in the meantime please be very careful not to use dirty shoes on the new surface.

5. The surface has a thin layer of sand which will gradually embed in the carpet through use and brushing.

6. We have a portable tennis net with two stands for use in the MUGA. If you require the whole MUGA playing surface (e.g for football or a basketball game) please move the stands to just outside the main door and bring them back inside the MUGA at the end of your session. The tennis committee will be issuing more detailed guidance on how to assemble and operate the portable tennis stands and net.

7. Please put away any equipment you use in the storage area and make sure the MUGA door is closed when you leave.

From 9th January, we will start scheduled activities: a mixture of school and nursery use, clubs and trial sessions for potential new clubs (eg basketball, netball). Members will be able to book the MUGA outwith these scheduled sessions or participate in the sessions.

We have a number of tasks to complete in the New Year including painting badminton and other detailed lines on the MUGA, lining out the practice court, tidying up the site and improving parking. However, please let us know if there are any issues you think need to be addressed. We are also planning a formal opening in late February to which you are all welcome: details to follow.

We hope you enjoy using this fantastic new facility!
