2025 Louise Willgrass Memorial Tournament

Last year I started my report rejoicing in the fact that the weather was amazing (for October) and this year was no different.  18 degrees, partially sunny, a little breeze – perfect for tennis.  Louise is truly blessed.

16 pairs of ladies from all over Norfolk and a couple from Suffolk competed in a “compass draw” event with four matches for everyone orchestrated by Derek Perry.

The forward draw was won by Stowmarket couple Debs Lawton-Abbot and Jane Cox.  As newbies we didn’t know whether to seed them or not – we will in future!!

They beat EATSC members Kerry Williams & Helen Newstead in the final, 6-4.  The backward draw was won by Stanmore pair Sheryl Jackson & Liz Gill.  They all received a beautiful orchid (supplied by Niche Flowers) from Louise’s son, Ben Willgrass, and his three-year-old daughter, Ottilie.  Ben very kindly sponsored the prizes.

A delicious lunch was prepared and served by Sharon & Bonnie.  The ever-popular raffle, together with some other donations, raised £500 for Tennis-Able, Derek’s non-profit enterprise which provides free tennis coaching to the disabled and disadvantaged.  https://www.tennisable.co.uk  Many thanks to all who contributed.

Niche has a “Friday Flower” delivery service (of which I am a very happy recipient).  https://www.nicheflowers.com
